Betty Lee Rey
Betty was born in Des Moines, Iowa and her family moved to Tampa when she was six weeks old. She
attended Ubca City College and the University of Tampa. She met and married Frank Rey; together
they owned and operated the Frank Rey Dance Theatre for 56 years. She was the strength behind the
dance studio, making it the most productive and largest dancing school in the Southeast. Her
professional career is quite extensive: soloist with Ballet Today and The International Dance
Company, assistant director and costume designer for the Florida Ballet Theatre. In 1980 she was
named an honorary member of England’s Pavlova Society.
