Liz Pennock Dr Blues 1Upright Records recording artists Liz Pennock & Dr. Blues have been performing together since 1983.  Ohio natives now based in St. Petersburg, Florida, this premier piano/guitar duo captivates audiences with their vast repertoire of classic, contemporary and original blues.

Piano player/singer Liz Pennock began performing professionally as a solo artist in 1975.  Undaunted by what might seem a limitation, Pennock was born minus two fingers on each hand, a fact not evident from the other side of the piano.  She has developed her own powerful ivory-tickling style, inspiring countless listeners.  Pennock’s songwriting ranges from the romantic “My Best Fan” to the rollicking “He Plays the Boogie.”   Liz also plays trombone and was an endorsee for Hohner harmonicas from 1998 thru 2011.

Guitarist/vocalist Paul “Dr. Blues” Shambarger began his musical career as a drummer in the late 1960’s.  He added guitar in the early 1970’s, then honed his slide dobro skills in the 1990’s.  Doc’s witty lyrics can be heard in his crowd-pleasing favorites “Alimony Blues,” “Taxi Driving Woman” and “Cruel Jewel.”

Opening the show: LEE PONS

Lee Pons 2A powerful vocalist and piano master, whose rich and soulful voice and piano playing draws from the raw emotions of the Big Easy! Earning critical and fan acclaim, Lee Pons  has been called one of the best in major blues magazines and hitting the charts on XM Satellite Radio & Roots Music Report!

A 2010 and 2011 International Blues Challenge Semi-Finalist, Lee Pons was born to play the blues. He began picking out songs on piano at an early age. When he saw Dr. John in 1974, the die was cast. Although classically trained at Juilliard, Pons remained captivated by the sounds of the Big Easy. “Even if I was playing in a heavy metal band, that New Orleans vibe would still come out,” he says.

An amazing keyboardist on both piano and Hammond B3 organ, he won “Best of the Bay” for Tampa Bay artists in 2009. 2010 saw the release of his “Big Boogie Voodoo” CD on Mind Balm Records. With Excellent sales and heavy radio play, the CD is doing quite well. With his gritty vocals, key pounding fury, and a heart and soul infused with New Orleans boogie woogie blues, Lee Pons is a true Voodoo Boogie Child.
