Outdoor Concert with Special Guest Matt Weihmuller
Join us for a special Jazz With Jim outdoors in the oak-shaded park behind the Center, when Jim welcomes special guest Matt Weihmuller. The concert starts at 6:30 pm with social distancing comfort. There is no admission fee but we do ask if you can afford it to please make a small donation to the Center in lieu of purchasing a ticket.
Feel free to bring lawn chairs or a blanket. Hamburgers, hot dogs, soft drinks, water, snacks, and beer and wine will be available. Please, no coolers allowed. Service dogs are welcome.
Matt Weihmuller relocated to the Tampa area in 2012, where he has been serving as the saxophone and jazz instructor at the Patel Conservatory at the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts. Matt has had the opportunity to perform with and gain from the direction of many noted jazz professionals, including Marcus Roberts, Bunky Greene, Jason Marsalis, Buster Cooper, Chick Corea, Eric Alexander and David Hazeltine. He received his early music instruction at Tampa’s Blake High School of the Arts.
At The Florida State University, he was a member of the Phi Beta Lambda honorary music association, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and Gold Key scholars, as well as a number of professional music associations.
Matt is also a composer, utilizing specialized music technology for the blind, as well as a frequent speaker, including several engagements as a guest lecturer at the Peabody Conservatory at John Hopkins University in Baltimore. His greatest personal goal, however, is to champion the cause of increasing Braille music literacy for young blind musicians.
Remember to “Round It Up” and make a donation to the Center’s Operating Fund. Consider making a donation when registering for classes or purchasing tickets. Your donation can be as simple as rounding your total to the nearest five or ten dollars — or whatever amount you wish to give. Thank you for your contribution!
