“If Music Be the Food…” is a collaboration between the University of South Florida School of Music, Carrollwood Cultural Center and Tampa Bay Harvest, in response to reports in the news of increased need for food aid the Tampa Bay community. It features members of the USF School of Music faculty, The Florida Orchestra, University of Tampa, distinguished guest artists, USF students and other Tampa Bay artistic institutions, all of whom join together and donate their services for these concerts. No money exchanges hands; all participants in every aspect of this endeavor volunteer their services and pay their own costs, so that all proceeds can go to the hungry via Tampa Bay Harvest. No tickets are sold for these concerts; rather, audience members are asked to bring non-perishable food items or cash donations for Tampa Bay Harvest as the price of admission.
“If Music Be the Food….” is inspired by the Rochester-based initiative of 2008, and is now part of a growing national movement of classical chamber music engagement in the community of the most meaningful sort.
