Painting for the Absolute Beginner with Gainor Roberts

If you are new to art and painting, you will have a good time with this small class size, designed with the beginning student in mind. Everything is provided for you, including the drawing on the canvas! You will get a canvas sheet with the lines of the still life outlined in grey. The still life of what you are painting is set up before you and a schematic showing the colors will be provided. Acrylic paints dry fast, so you can take it home with you.

Ages: 18+

Materials Fee: $15 (due to the instructor the date of your workshop)

All About Color with Gainor Roberts

This workshop is a combination of lecture and hands-on use of color for the artist. It will cover topics such as:

  • What is color
  • Simplified theory of color in light
  • Eyesight influence on color perception
  • Pigments and paint
  • Complementary color mixing (each person gets a brush, piece of canvas and some colors) we will mix colors, shade and tint, and make gray
  • Local color vs atmospheric color
  • Impressionist ideas about color

How to Think Like an Impressionist with Gainor Roberts

Tuesday, February 28 • 6-8:30 pm / REGISTER

This is a lecture/demonstration showing the methods and techniques that Gainor Roberts teaches in her painting class. Using visual aids, you will see how a painting is built using design, color and values.  There will also be a discussion of tools and materials. Gainor is a fourth-generation Impressionist painter. She will share what she has learned from some great American artists/teachers who brought Impressionism from France to America at the end of the 19th Century.

Ready, Set, Paint with Michele Stone

Monday, February 13 • 4:15-5:45 pm / REGISTER

If your child(ren) likes to paint in acrylic and learn new techniques, this class is perfect! Painting is a wonderful learning experience for children because they explore the creative process and express themselves. In this workshop, students will learn the basics: composition, technique and application of acrylic paint on a canvas. At the end of the workshop, your child will take home a wonderful piece of art that you will be proud to display in your home.

“Plein Air” Landscapes / Seascapes with Peter Stilton

Learn how to take a 3.5″x10″ board and paint a “plein air” looking landscape or seascape.

Ready, Set, Clay with Heather Rosenbach

Kids will learn about the fundamentals of hand building using air dry clay to make coils, pinch pot animals and other fun, interesting creations! Projects can be taken home the same day!

Raku Saturday with Heather Rosenbach

Open to current students and Mudslinger pass holders. Students will learn and participate in the Western Raku firing method using their own pottery created during their class.

Ages: 18+

Supplies List: long sleeves/jacket and pants/jeans (no polyester or synthetic fibers as they are flammable), long hair and beards must be tied back, closed toed shoes that are nonsynthetic material,

Intro to Playwriting with James Rayfield

This workshop will use writing exercises to explore various aspects of writing a play. Areas to be covered include: selecting a topic, creating a basic action, putting characters into conflict, establishing characters, and using dialogue to forward action. Students will write short scenes to be shared and discussed in class.
