Question: Why were County Commissioners Jim Norman and Ken Hagan, FCCC President Tom Jones, Carrollwood Village HOA Phase I President Dick Woltman, Editor of the Village Views John Miley, a reporter from the Tampa Tribune and others visiting construction work on the Main Building of the Carrollwood Cultural Center on March 12th?
Answer: The Commissioners want the Center open by mid fall, 2007, with programs underway!
The construction company will receive a bonus if the the work is completed early and they are going for it. Work is progressing at a furious pace.
The Friends conducted a membership meeting on April 24th. Members were surveyed as to the programs they would like to see at the Center.
Tours of the main building renovation work were provided. At that time, the 5,000 sq.ft. addition walls and roof were nearly complete. All of the demolition work in the former St. Mark's area were complete. All the new walls were in place and most of the drywall was complete.
On the right is a photo of Commissioners Norman and Hagan who have been strong supporters of the Center.

Peter and the Wolf was professionaly presented by Vicki Cuccia, Mary Ann Scialdo and Robert Sherman on March 4, 2007. Artwork was by area school children.

Steve Fowler - Baritone played to a full house on February 18th, 2007. Apparently the word got out, Steve Fowler is not only a great baritone, but also a wonderful entertainer. Along with his singing he treated us to great stories of showbusiness personalities and his own life, but also kept us laughing and singing along. Where else in the Tampa Bay area could you find this level of entertainment for $10 to $15?
Mr. Fowler introduced us to an up-and-comer, Christopher Overstreet. Another great voice. Don't miss any opportunity to enjoy hearing either of these gentlemen.
Mr. Fowler expressed a lot of interest in the Cultural Center. Perhaps we will see much more of him.
The Alexandria Art Gallery went all out and gave us a huge and excellent display of artwork. What a great afternoon!

The Tom Jemmott Band, with Tom Jemmott, guitar; Mike Gibilisco, tenor sax; Patrick Bettison, bass; and John Spindler, drums; played to an ample and swinging house at the Annex January 14th, 2007. They presented quite an array of modern jazz.

By a 6 - 0 vote (commissioner Storms was not present) the Commissioners approved the funding needed to go forward with the Carrollwood Cultural Center and also approved the naming rights proposal.
Thank you everyone who contacted the Commissioners in support of the Center. The commissioners were very complimentary of all who have worked in support of the Center that will benefit the entire county. The meeting was very friendly and cordial, and could not have gone better.
Be sure to thank the Commissioners for their support at your next opportunity.
So, now we can get on with awarding the contracts and look forward to a completion date about 10 months away. Approval of the naming rights proposal will hopefully help us with the funding of our wish list for the Center.
